The American College of Dubai (ACD) is a private educational institution incorporated under the laws of the United Arab Emirates (UAE). The college is a constituent unit of the Al-Shafar Group of Companies, a well-known entity in Dubai, noted for providing social and public services to the local community. ACD is licensed as an institution of higher learning by the Dubai Municipality and operates under the supervision of the Ministry of Education (formerly known as the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research) which accredits its academic programs.
The College is located on a purpose-built campus in the Al Garhoud area of Dubai near the Dubai International Airport and opposite the Dubai Festival City in a complex of schools and educational facilities. Its campus includes lecture halls, a separate library building with study areas, a major computer centre and related resource rooms, as well as a small clinic staffed by a resident nurse. Student activity areas include outdoor sports facilities such as a football field as well as basketball and volleyball courts. There is also a games hall beside the cafeteria as well as a dedicated activities area. ACD was established in 1990 and moved to its existing, purpose-built facilities in 1998. A major expansion of the campus was completed in 2001, at which time the library facility was constructed along with a larger student service area as well as additional Information Technology facilities. A subsequent major facility refurbishment was accomplished in 2008.
The mission of the American College of Dubai is to provide its students with the intellectual and social foundations necessary to prepare them to lead fulfilling lives as competent, committed and compassionate members of a global society. Utilizing well-equipped facilities and small class sizes, ACD focuses on delivering engaging instruction in an environment that fosters critical thinking and serious business career preparation. The Institution ensures its programs meet the needs of its stakeholders by constant interaction with the business community as well as other and international institutions of higher learning. The College also assists in the socialization and maturation of young adults by providing an environment that stresses the importance of ethical behavior and community involvement. ACD seeks to provide a quality and affordable education that enables students to immerse themselves in a US-style higher educational system. Specifically, its programs include the broad-based General Education Requirements characteristic of the US educational system with an emphasis on widening the perspective of the educated individual. Transfer-oriented students completing these initial requirements are assisted in transferring their “credits” toward the completion of a degree at universities in the USA and other countries.
For students who wish to complete their degree in Dubai, the college provides business-related, job-oriented degree programs that enable students to complete all of their qualifications in the UAE. In order to better prepare for employment those who earn an ACD awarded degree, the college assists students in obtaining work-related experience through well–coordinated internships as part of their course of study.
The United Nations ranked Canada as one of the best places in the world to live, based on Dubai's achievements in terms of educational attainment, life expectancy, national income and general quality of life, among other things.
1.Experience a Unique Study Abroad Destination
Anyone can go to Europe, the Far East, or “Down Under”, but the UAE is a relatively new destination undergoing constant and extreme transformation. Don’t be one of the crowd – head to the UAE for a whole new kind of adventure
2.Many Cultures in One Location
Study in the UAE, and you will certainly learn a lot about the Emirati culture. However, Emiratis only make up approximately 20% of the country’s population, with the remainder coming from all over the Arab-Islamic world, and beyond! While most people speak English, walk the streets and you will hear conversations in Arabic, Farsi, Urdu, Tagalog, English, and any number of other languages. You will come away from this study abroad experience with a wide knowledge and insight into a broad range of world cultures. The UAE is the place to discover the real meaning of the word internationalization.
3.Benefit from Excellent Educational Facilities
There are a range of study abroad opportunities, from large public universities to smaller private colleges, and everything in between. Many of these will be accredited both by the UAE’s Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research (MOHESR), and by an accrediting agency in another country. For example, the American University of Sharjah (AUS) is accredited jointly by MOHESR and by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools in the US. Not only that, but AUS’s individual programs are accredited to the “gold-standard” within the US system (i.e. AACSB, ABET, and NAAB). This means that students can continue on with their major studies in confidence at a high quality university, while experiencing all of the benefits and adventure that study abroad in the UAE has to offer.
4.Political stability
While the Gulf region isn’t a paragon of political stability, surprisingly, the UAE remains politically very stable and is also safe. It is this stability and security which convinces students to come and study in Dubai. The UAE enjoys positive diplomatic relations with all major economies which ensures that chances of instability in the near future aren’t very likely. Dubai is also reaping the benefits of economic, social, cultural, environmental and political reforms that have been carried out by the state. All these positive vibes emanating from Dubai and the UAE, is kind of a green light for students to study in the UAE or study in Dubai.
5.Many Program Options
Study abroad in the UAE as an exchange student (through a university partnership or ISEP), through a third-party provider (API, CIEE, IFSA-Butler), or as a direct-enrollment visiting student. You can join for a semester, or a year, and perhaps include an internship before returning home.

The Emirates are the central hub of the world. Students studying there can travel easily to and from their host country through one of the many world-class international airports in Abu Dhabi, Dubai, or Sharjah – or one of the regional airports. There are so many interesting and exotic locations nearby – India, Kenya, Bahrain, Nepal, Turkey, Morocco, Egypt, and many more. Reach both European and African locations in short plane rides.
9. Entertainment capital of the world
At any time of the year, Dubai is trickling with celebrities, sports stars and media barons. And something or the other is always on the horizon and there isn’t a single dull moment. From grand hotel openings to international sports events to food festivals to music extravaganzas, Dubai never stops. And then there are the ridiculously rich emirs who give a call to the biggest entertainers in the world who come running to entertain them.
